At summer LEAP this year we did lots of fun activities, went to some new places and enjoyed the outdoors! We had lots of programming come in and teach us fun, new things. Maquoketa State Bank came and taught us about money, how to count change, the importance of NEEDS vs Wants and how to save our pennies for the future! ISU Extension came in and we learned about clouds, precipitation, condensation and evaporation all working together to form the global water cycle. We attended Niabi Zoo to learn about animals. We got to see monkeys, a rhino, giraffes, snakes, lizards, koi fish and many more! The YMCA came and we learned new games and had fun learning the importance of physical activity. We visited the Sawmill Museum in Clinton and had a blast learning about the history of the lumber industry and its importance in the westward expansion. We got to play with the water table that showed us the journey from forests of Wisconsin to Clinton's Sawmills. Mrs.Larson the art teacher at the high school came and showed us a new way to make art with forks! We made sunflowers and animals, it was so much fun! We visited the Preston Public Library where Caroline read us some stories and did crafts afterwards. We got to meet the comodo dragon that has been visiting the library as well. We also learned how to tie dye. We made lovely colorful shirts! 3rd and 4th graders learned how to make decals for shirts. They worked together with Mrs.Lippens and Ms.Butt on a cricut cutting machine to cut iron on vinyl. They learned how to weed the vinyl and then finally iron on the designs.
