Hayden Holdgrafer, a 2023 graduate of Easton Valley High School, has recently launched a meat raffle fundraising campaign to raise money for a scholarship in Dick Keeney’s name. All Easton Valley National Honor Society members are required to complete a service project each year of their membership. Hayden had plans made for his senior project that involved an ag safety program for kids in our elementary. After Dick’s passing in February, he felt drawn to change his plans. Holdgrafer says, “I really wanted to do something to honor Dick and what a difference his service to the school made in my education. I want students for decades to know his name and how awesome he was!” After consulting people at the school, and visiting with Dick’s wife Ann, the idea of a scholarship fundraiser was born. With graduation quickly approaching, Holdgrafer was concerned he couldn’t do the fundraiser justice, so he had an unusual request for Mrs. Collister, the NHS advisor at Easton Valley. He asked permission to complete his service project after he had graduated. She obliged and the plans began. With the support of his parents, Brian and Keri Holdgrafer, and Preston Locker, the meat fundraiser raffle was kicked off about a month ago. Tickets are being sold for a chance to win a meat bundle worth $500. The meat bundle includes a ribeye loin, a New York strip loin, 30 pounds of 85/15 ground beef, 40 pounds of boneless chicken breasts, and 3 boneless pork loins. Tickets are sold 1 for $25 or 5 for $100. They can be purchased at the following locations: In Preston: Downtown Preston Valley Golf Course Maquoketa State Bank EV High School In Miles: Clinton National Bank Kountry Kutters – Kendra Cornilsen In Sabula: Homeport The winner will be drawn during halftime of the Easton Valley football game on September 29th. You do not need to be present to win. Holdgrafer says, “There is really no way to lose. You either win the meat bundle or you win by supporting such a great guy and a great cause.” If you are unable to make it to any of the above locations but would like to purchase tickets, please contact Hayden’s cell phone at 563-357-3542 or email him at haydenh2005@gmail.com.
