EASTON VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT 2024
Each year the Iowa Department of Education releases their annual Iowa School Performance Profile report for each school district/building across the state. In the 2024 report that was recently released the Easton Valley Community School District was recognized as a “Commendable” school district based on our student academic proficiency rates, student academic growth, and our performance on several other success indicators such as graduation rates and post-secondary readiness. All of these indicators are calculated in a formula that earns each school a total score that corresponds with one of six designations according to the table below.
Elementary Performance Overview - COMMENDABLE
Easton Valley Elementary earned a total of 479.63 points, out of a possible 700 total points. This equates to over 68% of total points, which is well above the state average of 61%. Our elementary school’s greatest gains were in the areas of math proficiency and math growth. Nearly 82% of our elementary students in grades 3-6 were proficient in the area of math according to the state assessment (Iowa State Assessment of Student Progress or ISASP). Our students' growth in the area of math also exceeded the state average by over thirty three percentage points.
Our elementary students also outperformed the state average growth for English Language Arts (reading and writing), however, we underperformed the state average for proficiency by approximately eight percentage points (64% proficient).
Easton Valley Elementary’s overall performance was the highest it has been since the beginning of this annual report in 2018.
Junior High / High School Performance Overview - COMMENDABLE
Easton Valley Junior High / High School earned a total of 557.67 points, out of a possible 900 total points. This equates to nearly 62% of total points, which is slightly above the state average of 61%. Our JH/HS building saw the most significant increases in our math proficiency rates, which jumped up by over nineteen percent. Our English Language Arts proficiency rate also went up by over seven percentage points.
The Easton Valley Junior High/High School significantly exceeded the state average for growth in English Language Arts and Math. Our graduation rates are right on par with the rest of the state. The percentage of Easton Valley students who earn college credit in high school outperformed the state average by over five percent.
After several consecutive years of fluctuating up and down, our junior high/high school has shown significant growth over a three year period. Overall, performance metrics indicate that our school is moving in a positive direction.
Final Summary
As you can see in the data reports, Easton Valley Elementary and Easton Valley JH/HS are both trending in a positive direction. For the first time since this report was issued in 2018, both school buildings have been identified as “Commendable” by the Iowa Department of Education.
Currently, our district is continuing to invest in high quality professional learning for our educators. We have also made a substantial effort to invest in new, research based curriculum resources in both schools over the past two years. Our goal by the end of this year is to reach 80% proficiency for all students in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We are also excited about the expanded opportunities we are offering students to access more post-secondary learning experiences through our college level course offerings, work-based learning program, and our career academy programs our students attend at the Eastern Iowa Community College Career Advancement Centers.
