This past December, the young Easton Valley Quiz Bowl team had won the Clinton Community College Invitational. Along with a trophy, they received a $1200.00 scholarship to CCC. The catch? It had to be used within a year’s time, and it had to go to someone that was enrolled at CCC as a full-time student. All four students on the quiz bowl team are freshmen. They would not be enrolling as a full-time college student anytime soon. The answer however was simple to this group. Find Easton Valley seniors interested in going to CCC in the next school year and choose one to have the scholarship transferred to. After deliberating for some time, the team chose Lexie Tebbe. Lexie is going into CCC’s nursing program in the fall. Lexie’s grades are superb, and she is very dedicated to her current and future education. The team loved seeing her genuine and appreciative reaction to being told that they had chosen her for this honor, and they truly believe they made the right decision. Congratulations, Lexie!
Remember me mentioning that this group was one to watch for many reasons. It’s worth mentioning that they participated at the state Quiz Bowl competition this past weekend in Waukee. As a freshmen group competing in a varsity, state competition, they had two wins and five losses. One might argue that with the difference in their age compared to other schools, they shouldn’t have had any wins but that simply wasn’t the case. Lucas was the high scorer for our team for the day. He was also nominated for all-state. Way to go Lucas! Be sure to keep following them as they get ready to compete at nationals in Chicago the last weekend in April. Easton Valley is doing some awesome things, go Riverhawks!
